The design is printed like a reverent 1970s hobby-magazine advert in flat four-colour ink: LOST IN 1912 across the top in ink brown — the colour of the ground it lay in — a single wheat-cent coin struck dead centre in mustard-and-brown halftone with avocado rays radiating behind it, and FOUND ON SATURDAY across the bottom in warm burnt rust, the colour of the day it came up. No punchline and no wink — just the two dates and the coin between them, because this one was never a joke. On a sand or grey crew the bare fabric between the marks becomes the newsprint.
