There is a shirt for the person who likes the idea of space, and it has a cartoon moon on it. This one is for the person who owns the telescope. It is drawn as a plate, not a graphic, the way an actual atlas would have been engraved, back when charting the sky was the work of a lifetime and someone had to sit down and cut it into copper. Nobody has to explain it to you. That is rather the point: it is a quiet word, and it sorts the room.
Soft and easygoing, broken in from the first wear, with a plate that sits in the fabric rather than on top of it, offered in a range of deep, dark shades, because the aged engraving reads richest on the color the sky actually is.
It is what a hobbyist buys himself. It is also, reliably, the astronomy gift a family cannot get wrong: the equipment is unaffordable and unguessable, and this is neither.
